NRL Preview: Friday Night Football

Canberra Raiders vs Melbourne Storm.

GIO Stadium, 6:00pm AEST.

Both of these teams started 2019 with a solid start with the Raiders taking a commanding victory against the Titans 21-0, however the Storm in a new era without Billy Slater made short work of the Broncos.

The Storm still have an outstanding forward pack however Jerome Hughes last week was exceptional, Look for Hughes to be the key factor in the Nations Capital.

For the Raiders, Jack Wighton was very impressive at 5/8 last week and will look to improve on this form. The Raiders have the experience in the backs and will look to get Nic Cotric as involved as possible.

The way we see it: Melbourne are just too hard to go against. Even without Slater they have a quality fullback who will get the job done. The Storm's forward pack is to strong for the lacking experience Raiders. Storm to run away with this one 12+.

Brisbane Broncos vs North Queensland Cowboys.

Suncorp Stadium, 8:05pm AEST.

The first queensland derby of the year see's a Cowboys team off the back of an impressive win led by Michael Morgan take on a Broncos side which last week looked a lot less impressive than in recent years.

The forward pack from the Cowboys had an impressive first game of the season with Superstar Jason Taumalolo breaking his own record and running for 301m. The key for the Broncos to win this game is to shut the big man down leaving Michael Morgan with little field position.

The way I see it: The Cowboys forward pack is just too good in this one, Josh McGuire had an impressive first game for his new side and with Jordan McLean and Matt Scott leading the front row its hard to go past the Cowboys. Cowboys by 12.
