Tigers See Off Dragons

Greg Eden returned to try scoring ways with a double as Castleford Tigers eased to a remarkably stress free victory over Catalan Dragons.

It was a game where defence ruled the day and coach Darryl Powell would have been very pleased with the tenacity and cohesion of his team. It was simply outstanding for virtually the full 80 minutes and that bodes well for the 2019 season.

With scores from the superb Paul McShane and Eden himself , the Tigers went into the break 12-0 up.

If there was any doubts  about the loss of Luke Gale for the season, these were quickly dispelled in a classy and thorough performance by man of the match McShane. Here is a player who has really developed his game under the coaching of Darryl Powell and he will be a key performer this super league season. With a try and 4 kicks McShane was outstanding throughout.

The Dragons have a poor track record at the mend a hose stadium and this performance was no different with a solitary Lewis Tierney score in the second half. With new boys Sam Tompkins , Matty Smith and Matt Whitley making their debuts coach Steve McNamarra will be hoping for some better performances in the weeks ahead.

Dragons performed reasonably well in the opening phases and Lewis Tierney was denied an opening score after some superb defence from Winger Greg Minikin. There is also little doubt that Sam Tomkins will have a significant impact in the south of France .

After the break and McShane increased the lead with a penalty goal but the score by Tierney later in the half after some good work by Kenny Edwards was all the Dragons could offer.

With Winger Eden also displaying his defensive qualities the game was in the bag as he took his second well taken score with McShane converting

It was a comfortable and well worked victory for the home team and the Dragons will be looking for some improvement next week
