VRL Names 5 Debutants as Lui Breaks Record

The Interchange Vanuatu Rugby League (VRL) Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Head Coach Lionel Harbin has named 5 debutants in his 18 man squad to face Hungary at the Rugby League Emerging Nations World Championship in Sydney today. Fullback Stephen Tanga, winger Amani Arutahiki, halfback Andrew Kaltonga, hooker Stanley Jospeh and lock Ben Henderson are all in line to make debuts, should they be named in the final 17 man squad.
Hungary ranked 21st in the world will be looking to book a spot in the semi-finals with a win over 36th ranked Vanuatu, after an opening day 20-18 win over Greece in the Pool B clash. This will be Vanuatu’s first match against Hungary and first match since last October’s 40-20 victory over the Solomon Islands in Honiara.
“It’s going to be a very tough ask against a very good Hungary side that played really well and had a good win over Greece on Monday. We’ve trained well all week but we’re certainly here to win and show the world the strength of our domestic competition and pathways for our players to play and win on the world stage” commented Interchange Vanuatu Rugby League Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Head Coach Lionel Harbin.
Tonny Lui is set to become the all time leading record holder for the Interchange Vanuatu Rugby League, playing in his 6th Test Match, a record he currently jointly holds with the late Jason Pakoasongi, Sweeney Sablan and former Captain Samuela Loaloadravu. James Wood will Captain the side for a record 5th time.
