Warriors Fight Conditions To Come Up With Win

In a dour struggle of a game Wigan managed to claim a home semi final spot, with this gruelling 13-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants.

It was raining none stop for virtually the whole eighty minutes, and that resulted in a series of errors which dominated the game .

For the giants , the most significant feature of this game was the final appearance in a Huddersfield shirt of Ryan Hinchcliffe and Jake Mamo.

The game itself is best forgotten , a drab , weary encounter with a few eye catching performances, notably young half back Olly Russell . With a single try in the first half from Morgan Eacare, the Frenchman maintained his balance well to outpace the Huddersfield defence at close range.
For Wigan Joe Greenwood went close twice but was denied in monsoon like conditions.
With a Sam Tomkins penalty earlier in the half the half time score was 6-0 to the visitors.

Huddersfield started brightly in the second half with strong performances from Kruise Leeming and Colton Roche .
A drop goal from Eacare on 59 minutes took Wigan ahead further and Tom Davies had a try ruled out due to a knock one

In his Final game Ryan Hinchcliffe was denied as he almost broke the line but then the exciting Kruise Leeming grabbed the four points to really put Wigan under pressure. Danny Brough converted and at 7-6 it could have gone either way.

With Danny Brough sin binned in the final minutes however the giants had in reality lost the contest and with the game almost over centre Oliver gildart raced onto a George Williams kick for a deciding score . Tomkins converted for a 13-6 victory in difficult conditions.

A win is a win and Wigan move towards a home semi final game in confident mood. Huddersfield can gain comfort from a fairly good season under outstanding new coach Simon Woolford with a lot to look forward to in the development of Matty English , Olly Russell, and Innes Senior.
