RLATG National Club Championship 2018 Highlights

The RLATG National Club Championship ended this weekend, the Dragons winning the play off and the Red Sharks retaining their title in a big win over the JDF Warriors, so now seems as good a time as ever to recap on some of the highlights.

Round 1 - Spanish Town Shock The Dragons

The Spanish Town Vikings were expected to struggle in the 2018 season and many tipped them to finish without a win so this victory in Round 1 over the side that would eventually win the Play Off title, this 27-14 victory will resinate with the team for a long time and will no doubt be their platform to build on for the 2019 season.

Round 2 - Warriors Hold Sharks To A Draw

JDF proved just how much of a threat they are in this round 2 shock, the Red Sharks were predicted to win every game this season so you can imagine the shock this brought and the hope it gave to many in the league, Duhaney Park's Invincibles looking a little more human in this 14-14 draw that the Warriors almost stole in the dying minutes.

Round 3 - Angels Fall To The Bulls

Coming into this game the Bulls were in dead last on 0 points and looked fresh out of luck, who would have thought they would end up beating the side that would eventually finish second on the competition ladder. A 21-16 win for the Bulls that set the wheels in motion for their 2018 campaign, the Angels stunned by a resolute performance and the defense on display from Washington Boulevard.

Round 4 - GC Hang Tough Against The Sharks

Arguably the upset of the 2018 season, the GC Angels sending shockwaves through Jamaican Ruby League with a 26-22 win over the Red Sharks, recovering from their upset loss to the Bulls by seeing off the competition favourites and now sitting at the top of the competition ladder while nudging the Sharks to 3rd spot behind the Warriors.

Round 6 - Simpson Sets Record

The title is fairly self explanitory, Andrew Simpson smashed the RLATG National Club Championship record with an incredible 7 tries in one game, the round 8 fixture between the Red Sharks and the Bulls finished up 50-0 to Duhaney Park, Andrew Simpson making up an incredible 30 points! with 7 tries and a conversion, two records smashed in one game, most points scored by an individual player in one game and most tries scored by an individual in one game.

Semi-Final - Warriors Eliminate Angels

If you took a general consensus of predictions before this game, there would only be a handful of people backing a JDF win, the Angels had been sensational through the 2018 season and came very close to snatching the league leaders spot from the Sharks so when JDF held out for a 20-16 win in game 1 of the semi-finals it came as a massive upset, the Angels had won both meetings in the regular season between these two sides but failed to finish the job.
