Ukraine Update


Last weekend was full of competitions for aspiring Ukrainian athletes.

First of all, of course, there were finals of the Under 19 European Championships, full match reports available on the Ukrainian rugby league website. Saturday, August 11th, the Ukrainian team had suffered defeats by Wales (0:90) and Serbia (54:26) competed with the Italians for 7th place.

Unfortunately for the second time this year, the boys failed to defeat the national team of Italy (score 58: 6), The first Championship for our juniors leaving the Ukraine in 8th place "We, unfortunately, did not have time to prepare for the fight with such strong rivals, the news about our participation was unexpected. Therefore, we are convinced that next time we will be able to get a bigger result, "- commented Igor Yurkin, the coach of the U19 team. The Ukraine called up to the competition just less than 2 weeks before kick after Russia pulled out.

On the same Saturday, but in Leeds, our legionnaires in the Milford Marlins took on the Thornhill Trojans. In the starting lineup of the second team were Oleksandr Kozak, Oleksandr Syvokoz, the Milford coming up with the points in a 42-34 win over their fierce rivals. It was a back to back fixture in Kirkstall, as fast as the second team were off the pitch, the first team were on. Eugene Trusov in the second row of the attack and Michael Trojan on the wing. Unfortunately, despite all the efforts of our team, in this game, the game finishing 28-2 in favour of the visitors.
