St Helens vs Wigan Warriors Super 8's Round 3 Preview

Both of these Grand Final hopefuls experienced good wins in their last Super 8's outing, Wigan storming to a 35-6 victory over Challenge Cup winners Catalans, meanwhile, St Helens with an almost as equally comfortable win over Wakefield, taking that game 36-16.

This fixture has brought two very close results in the 2018 Super League season, the Saints claiming victory on both occasions, the victory coming back on good Friday at a scoreline of 21-18, the second victory a slightly wider margin of 14-6, it's sure to be another tight game come Friday night.

Saints make 2 changes to their last outing, Matty Smith and Aaron Smith both cut from the squad for the returning Ryan Morgan and Luke Thompson, to bolster the St Helens 19 man selection. Shaun Wane also makes just 2 changes to his squad, Sean O'Loughlin and Oliver Gildart return from the casualty ward, Wigan still without 5 first team players for this game.

St Helens: Jonny Lomax, Tommy Makinson, Ryan Morgan, Mark Percival, Theo Fages, James Roby, Kyle Amor, Zeb Taia, Jon Wilkin, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Luke Douglas, Morgan Knowles, Luke Thompson, Danny Richardson, Regan Grace, Matty Lees, Jack Ashworth, Ben Barba, Matty Costello.
Wigan Warriors: Sam Tomkins, Tom Davies, Dan Sarginson, Oliver Gildart, George Williams, Sam Powell, Tony Clubb, Thomas Leuluai, Ben Flower, Sean O’Loughlin, John Bateman, Ryan Sutton, Willie Isa, Morgan Escare, Romain Navarrete, Gabriel Hamlin, Oliver Partington, Kibula, Joe Greenwood.
I'm backing a third successive Saints win in 2018, they will be looking to close out the competition in style, clutching the final 2 pieces of silverware on offer, especially with losing star man, Ben Barba, at the end of the season, this is their title for the taking and they feel that, Friday's game will be a statement of intent for the final and that's why I'm backing Saints by 7-12.
