Salford Red Devils vs Widnes Vikings The Qualifiers Round 2 Preview

After the disaster against the London Broncos last week, Widnes Vikings rule out star forward Charlie Gubb through injury .
Forwards Alex Gerrard and Lloyd White return whilst youngster Danny Walker makes way.

The Vikings have a heavy injury list with Hep Cahill, Stefan Marsh,Rhys Hansbury ,Ryan Ince and Jordan Johnstone all ruled out.

The Vikings are very close to intensive care at the moment and after that performance last week things are looking pretty grim.

For the Red Devil’s ex Widnes man Greg Burke returns in place of Tyrone McCarthy.
Salford can take comfort from the recent 26-12 victory over widnes just two months ago and the addition of Jackson Hastings has been a revelation for the home team.

The question is , “ are the Vikings really that poor “ , and can they compete with a Salford team who appear re-energised.
Home fans will be looking to see the impressive Joey Lussick and his arrival along with Hastings has been critical .
For the Vikings Olly Ashall Bott is a young man who widnes need to retain if he is not to be tempted elsewhere and in Tom Olbison and Harrison Hansen they have two forwards at least who can make the hard yards .

It’s difficult to imagine Salford losing this game and with a clever young coach in Ian Watson and the home advantage I expect Salford to take this game by 10-14 points.

Expect Robert Lui to throw up a few high balls to the vulnerable Patrick Ah Van and if nobody can read Liam Finn’s passing game for Widnes then Salford will take advantage.

Widnes fans are already calling for the head of Francis Cummins and the North Stand “ boo boys” won’t accept another defeat .

A victory here for Salford will send a strong message to the rest of the middle eights and I expect that message will be loud and clear.
