Roosters Show Grit in Defence Winning 18-4

With the semi finals on the horizon and the top of the table up for grabs, this encounter which had star studded match ups all across the field, would prove to be another classic local derby between the Roosters and the Rabbitohs.

With good early possession and of the back of some strong hard running forwards, the Rabbits got out of the blocks early and were awarded a ‘play the penalty’ through Thomas Burgess. Which was later converted by Adam Reynolds who put the Rabbitohs out in front by two points.

However a hamstring injury to Rabbitohs fullback Alex Johnson would be costly as the Roosters would capitalise through star fullback James Tedesco crossing the line on the back of a well executed set play from the Roosters to put them in front.

With the roosters now leading 6 -2 the momentum started to swing towards the chooks, the Rabbitohs would give away a penalty of the back of some pressure to put the Roosters out to a converted try.

Through shear hard work the roosters defence was starting to look impenetrable, but great individual brilliance by the Rabbitohs little number 7 Adam Reynolds with a Alfie Langer type play, scoring off a little grubber kick, levelled the game up shortly before the break. With both teams heading into the sheds with matching stats the second half would prove to be action packed.

Roosters Big man Dylan Nappa would lead the way with his aggression like a man on a mission set the tone for the second half. The Roosters would show through out the game that they had control with a string of possession and a try scored in scintillating fashion by Roosters finisher Joseph Manu. But the Roosters would be ridiculed by silly errors and continued to invite the Rabbits back in the Game.

With 17min to go slick thinking by Rabbitohs Forward John Sutton puts flyer Hymal Hunt in the corner for a try to put the Rabbits within range. With the game in the balance both sides would have equal opportunities towards the end. The momentum of the game would swing both ways, but the Roosters proved through their Grit and determination that their defence would get them home in what was an entertaining game of football.
