Huddersfield Giants vs Wakefield Trinity Round 3 Super 8's Preview

Warrington's victory on Thursday night has now shut officially slammed the door shut on Wakefield top 4 hopes, although it would have taken divine intervention to close a gap that size, it was still mathematically possible, as is still the case with Huddersfield, it's a slim hope but still a hope all the same.

It's one a piece for these sides in 2018's head to head, Wakefiled taking the first win at home in a 22-4 victory back in early March, the Giants then returning the favour in a 24-14 win on their home patch. This was also the case in 2017, to see a break in the home victory pattern you have to look back to the 2016 season, this was the last time Wakefield beat Huddersfield away from home.

Huddersfiled welcome back a wealth of talent and experience to their 19 man suqad, Jake Mamo, Michael Lawrence and Aaron Murphy in, Oliver Roberts, Daniel Smith and Jake Wardle making way. Wakefield are without two of their big metre makers, Chris Annakin and David Fifita both missing out on a spot in the 19 man squad this week, replaced by Jordan Crowther and Keegan Hirst.

Huddersfield Giants: Jake Mamo, Jermaine McGillvary, Leroy Cudjoe, Jordan Turner, Aaron Murphy, Lee Gaskell, Danny Brough,Kruise Leeming, Michael Lawrence, Ryan Hinchcliffe, Dale Ferguson, Jordan Rankin, Akuma Ta'ai,  Paul Clough, Adam O'Brien, Alex Mellor, Darnell McIntosh, Colton Roche, Suaia Matagi

Wakefield Trinity: Tinirau Arona, Matty Ashurst, James Batchelor, Jordan Crowther, Anthony England, Scott Grix, Ryan Hampshire, Keegan Hirst, Justin Horo, Craig Huby, Tom Johnstone, Ben Jones-Bishop, Max Jowitt, Reece Lyne, Jacob Miller, Pauli Pauli, Tyler Randell, Bill Tupou, Kyle Wood.

I'm backing a Huddersfield win here, although their chances of stealing a top 4 spot are as good as dead and buried, Woolford wants a strong finish to the season to atone for their very poor start, finishing 5th would be testament to just how well Huddersfield have done to turning their season around, nobody will have anticipated that 3 months ago. Huddersfield by 7-12.
