Eels make spoon battle interesting with win over Titans

Eels defeat Titans 28-12

The Eels trying to avoid the wooden spoon and the Titans building to a strong off season this game was going to be interesting as both teams can’t make the finals.

Eels hooker Reed Mahoney got out of dummy half and put Tim Mannah over the line to score the opening try of the game. Mitchell Moses converted and Eels took an early 6-0 lead.

Titans would be next to score through recently re-signed winger Anthony Don in the corner. Michael Gordon couldn’t nail the conversion from the sideline. Eels lead 6-4.

Titans other winger Phillip Sami scored an easy try crashing over the much smaller Bevan French to get the Titans second try. Gordon couldn’t convert from the sideline and Titans hit the front 8-6.

The Eels started to build some pressure on the Titans line forcing a line drop out and then the next Set  they scored their second try through Jarryd Hayne. Mitchell Moses a couple metres in from touch converted the try and the Eels jumped to a 12-8 lead.

A beautifully executed play lead to the Eels third try and Bevan French was on the end of a Jarryd Hayne pass. Mitch Moses was unable to convert and the Eels held a 16-8 lead.

Another great play but on the other side of the field led to the Eels 4th Try through George Jennings off a Clinton Gutherson quick pass and Mitch Moses converts to give the Eels 22-8 lead.

Halftime Eels lead the Titans 22-8.

Michael Gordon looked to have voted the opening try to the second half but he knocked it on.

Mitch Moses threw a huge intercept that Anthony Don grabbed and ran 90m to score a long range Try. Michael Gordon missed the conversion from almost in front and Eels lead 22-12.

Konrad Hurrell was next denied a try that he lost over the line.

With 13 minutes to go Tim Mannah was sin binned.

Corey Norman scores a try off his own kick in the 74th minute and Mitch Moses converts from in front.

Moeaki Fotuaika was sin binned with a couple seconds to go.
