Widnes Vikings vs Castleford Tigers Super League Round 23 Preview

The Vikings include new signings Liam Finn and Harrison Hansen in Sunday’s visit of Castleford Tigers, with Chris Dean also returning from injury . Widnes will be looking to build some momentum as they prepare for the middle eights whilst Castleford make four changes from last week.

For the Tigers new signing from Leigh Peter Matu’utia is a highly experienced and versatile recruit who has played at a seriously high standard for the Newcastle Knights. Mike McKeekan, Callum Turner and Jacques O’Neil are included in the nineteen with Matt Cook , Jake Webster, Grant Millington and Lewis Peachey making way .

Widnes fans will be looking for some positive indicators that they have the ability to remain in super league and the experience Finn will add a touch of skill and guidance to a team who have consistently struggled for much of the season. Francis Cummins will see this as a big test of his squad although the game comes too early for third new signing Charlie Gubb.

Castleford need to show some improvements from their performance last week when they disappointed in their 32-18 defeat by the Huddersfield Giants.

Adam Milner, Paul McShane , and Jake Trueman should prove to be too strong of a combination for this Widnes team, although the searing heat of a Sunday afternoon could be an influence on both teams .

Expect a lot of movement to the Tigers Wings with a strong scrambling defence required from the Vikings. I’m predicting a Castleford win of between 6-10 points and a tighter game than many pundits may predict.
