Rhinos Rebuild Begins With Vikings Nilling

Even diehard Viking supporters won’t be surprised by the size of this 34-0 defeat by a Leeds team with much to prove .
15 defeats on the run has seen widnes nailed on for bottom spot in a series of displays which will leave them feeling vulnerable .

The first score for Leeds came from Brad Dwyer after 17 minutes when he broke tackle After tackle for a quite amazing try .This was an score right out of the top drawer for Dwyer but Coach Francis Cummins will be disappointed that at least five of his players missed the opportunity to bring Him down.

A few minutes later Luke Briscoe seized on a loose ball opportunity to show a clean pair of heels for a 50 Meter sprint to the line. Neither try was converted.

The next Leeds try was right out of the “ this should never have been scored bracket “. A pass at the play the ball saw Richie Myler waltz over the Vikings line fending off a weak attempted tackle by Krisnan Inu.
Cummins will not be pleased that so many gaps were appearing in the Vikings defence as demonstrated by a Matt Parcell try just before half time which saw ten players handle the ball finishing with a tremendous inside ball from Ash Handley to the hooker who himself sliced though a paper thin Vikings defence.

With the scores at 20-0 at half time the Rhinos quickly capitalised on their superiority early in the second half when Joel Moon stepped through three or four players with Myler converting to put the game beyond doubt . The Vikings offered little in attacks and even less in defence and supporters will be disappointed .

A few minutes later the ball was spread wide close to the Widnes line and Tom Briscoe took the easy four points and on 69 minutes young Jack Walker scored in virtually the same position after a nice play by Myler .

34-0 probably should have been much more but Director of Rugby Sinfield will be pleased with some clever rugby and some classical finishing .
This was a poor performance by the Vikings in need of something far more positive than this
