Huddersfield Giants vs Wigan Warriors Super League Round 21 Preview

It's polar opposites for these two side coming into Round 21, Wigan playing to hold onto second place while Huddersfield and caught in a dog fight to keep themselves in the much desired 8th spot.

The Giants are looking to record their first win over the Warriors since the 29th of May 2014, Wigan winning 10 of the last 12 meetings since then, the two that they didn't win were two draws in 2017, 16-16 and 19-19 through the regular season. There is no middle ground on these games, they are usually either a huge win 26+ points or a close game 1-12 points the difference.

Warriors make a few changes to the side that snatched victory in dramatic fashion at Warrington, Navarette returns from suspension and O'Loughlin is back from injury, however, Dan Sarginson, Joe Greenwood, George Williams and Liam Farrell all missing out. The Giants welcome back some more first team talent from the injury ward Jake Mamo, Dale Ferguson, Alex Mellor and Jake Wardle all back for Huddersfield in a hugely important game.

Huddersfield Giants: Jake Mamo, Jermaine McGillvary, Leroy Cudjoe, Jordan Turner, Aaron Murphy, Lee Gaskell, Danny Brough, Michael Lawrence, Ryan Hinchcliffe, Dale Ferguson, Jordan Rankin, Oliver Roberts,Paul Clough, Daniel Smith, Adam O’Brien, Alex Mellor, Darnell McIntosh, Matty English, Jake Wardle.

Wigan Warriors: John Bateman, Tony Clubb, Tom Davies, Morgan EscarĂ©, Ben Flower, Oliver Gildart, Gabe Hamlin, Willie Isa, Sammy Kibula, Tommy Leuluai, Liam Marshall, Romain Navarette, Sean O’Loughlin, Liam Paisley, Ollie Partington, Sam Powell, Taulima Tautai, Sam Tomkins, Josh Woods.

This is going to be a tight game, Huddersfield know that a loss here could very much jeopardize their chances of avoiding the bottom 4, Wigan are technically still in the hunt for 1st place, relying on Saints somehow losing their last 3 games but they will also be looking to finish strongly in 2018. I'm backing a Wigan win by 7-12 points, the Warriors have looked good in the last few weeks and I believe they have the strength to overpower the Giants.
