Daly in as Queensland make mass changes for Origin 3

Queensland will be forced to make multiple changes to their team from State of Origin II as injuries have plagued their stars with just hours before the team was meant to be announced. The Maroons pushed back their announcement from last night until today, Monday at a time yet to be disclosed as of writing as a result of an injury to Greg Inglis on Sunday afternoon.

Queensland captain Greg Inglis broke his thumb during the Rabbitohs win against the North Queensland Cowboys in Cairns on Sunday afternoon. Inglis was sent for scans straight after the game, with those scans confirming the break. It is expected that he will be out of action for the next two months. It was not the only injury that blasted the Maroons this weekend, with Kalyn Ponga suffering a suspected grade 1 hamstring tear during the Knights heavy defeat at home to the Canterbury Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Ponga was a potential option to move to halfback, with Ben Hunt possibly being put on the bench for Origin 3.

Peter Badel out of the Courier Mail tweeted late on Sunday Night that Daly Cherry Evans would be the Queensland halfback for the third and final Origin game in Brisbane on Sunday week. It is believed that if Ponga was not injured, Hunt would be named in the final squad due to his poor showings so far in Origin this series. There had been rumours that Ash Taylor and Moses MBye could have been brought into camp as starting halves or on the bench, however is seems that coach Kevin Walters will stick with Hunt as a back-up hooker for Andrew McCullough. The Broncos hooker has been solid without being spectacular so far, and Walters is looking for a possible spark later in the game that Ponga would have provided. While the naming of the team for Queensland was delayed a day due to the injury of Greg Inglis, we here at RLATG have heard that Corey Oates could be in with a recall to the Queensland camp. This would send Dane Gagai in to play at his usual club position of centre, with Oates on the wing. There has also been a whisper or two about Edrick Lee coming in to make his Origin debut, with the newly-signed Knight recruit having a very good year with the Cronulla Sharks alongside his statesman in Valentine Holmes.
