Dragons 20 defeat Eels 18

Scoring Summary:

First v Last but both teams would be desperate for a win.

The opening 10 minutes the Eels showed they came to play defending strongly and keeping the Dragons on the back foot.

The scoring opened in the 15th minute when the Dragons converted a penalty in front. Dragons 2-0.

Eels scored their first try when Tim Mannah split the Dragons defence with a beauty of a right foot step and putting Bevan French away under the posts in the 25th minute. Clinton Gutherson converted from in front. Eels lead 6-2.

Eels were next to score through lock Nathan Brown off a nice set play. Clinton Gutherson converts to give the Eels a 12-2 lead.

The Dragons threw some razzle dazzle down the sideline and Matt Dufty scores next to the posts. Gareth Widdop converts. Eels 12-8.

The Eels kept the lead into the halftime break.

Dragons were flat to start ge second half and the Eels capatilised when Jarryd Hayne was put through off a great Gutherson pass. Gutherson converts and Eels lead 18-8.

Mitchell Moses and Corey Norman’s kicking games kept he Dragons in their field of play most of the night.

The Dragons looked to have scored in the 68th minute but Leilua was held up by Norman and Hayne and bundled into touch. Eels 18-8.

Moses forced another line drop out to keep the pressure on the Dragons defensive line.

Dragons went in off a Ben Hunt kick when Euan Aitken grounded it before the dead ball line. Widdop converts Eels still in front by 4.

Matt Dufty stole the ball off David Gower and scored under the posts with 3 minutes to go. Gareth Widdop converted. Dragons hit the lead 20-18.

The Eels played well but the Dragons snatched the victory at the death.
