How much will this miss cost the Roosters?

Latrell Mitchell last night put forward his case for shank of the season. With the scores locked up at Adelaide Oval, the Roosters were given the opportunity to take what should have been an easy 2 points after receiving a penalty from virtually in front.

Unfortunately though, as you can see from the video above Mitchell hit the upright and well as they say, the rest is history.

The result seen Melbourne enter the top 4 with 9 games to go, whilst the Roosters will finish the round in 6th due to a strong points differential.

But how much could this loss hurt the Roosters? Following on from the bye next round they face Manly before a run of matches against the top sides with the Dragons (1st), Rabbitohs (2nd) and Warriors (5th), Raiders (9th) and Broncos (8th).

All of a sudden a missed penalty goal has the potential to hurt a lot more than normal. Instead of sitting comfortably inside the top 4, the Roosters could potentially be on the outer of the top 8 by the time the face the Raiders in round 23, who would be the biggest threat of entering the 8.

By round 25, the match against the Eels could become a must win, instead of an opportunity to rest some player's before finals football.

It's safe to say that's not where the pre-season title favourites would have planned to be sitting come September. And if somehow they don't make the 8, Trent Robinson could be looking for a new job before October...
