Widnes Vikings vs St Helens Magic Weekend Preview

The Vikings will come to Newcastle in the hope of opening the Magic Weekend with a shock win over in form Saints, St Helens have lost just 2 of their 14 games so far and have racked up an impressive 454 points this season, it's no surprise they are sitting at the top of the table.

While St Helens are on an unbeaten run, the Vikings are on a losing streak that has now set them 4 points adrift of 8th place, Widnes without a win in their last 6 Super League games, one of those losses includes their 28-6 loss to St Helens in round 9. This now means Saints have the potential to make it 3 wins in a row against the Vikings, as Widnes' poor record against St Helens would be worsened as they only 1 win in their last 10 over the league leaders.

Widnes will be relieved to welcome back some big names from injury including; Patrick Ah Van, Joe Mellor and Danny Craven, Widnes also have the extra help from Jimmy Keinhorst as he extends his loan with the Vikings and is named in the 19. For St Helens there's just the one change, a simple suspension swap as Kyle Amor picked up a 1 match ban, he replaces Matty Lees who returns from a 2 game suspension.

Widnes Vikings: Patrick Ah Van, Wellington Albert, Greg Burke, Hep Cahill, Danny Craven, Alex Gerrard, Tom Gilmore, Rhys Hanbury, Aaron Heremaia, Jordan Johnstone, Jimmy Keinhorst, MacGraff Leuluai, Stefan Marsh, Joe Mellor, Tom Olbison, Charly Runciman, Danny Walker, Matt Whitley, Sam Wilde.
St Helens: Jonny Lomax, Tommy Makinson, Ryan Morgan, Mark Percival, Adam Swift, Theo Fages, Matty Smith, James Roby, Zeb Taia, Jon Wilkin, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Luke Douglas, Morgan Knowles, Luke Thompson, Dom Peyroux, Danny Richardson, Regan Grace, Matty Lees, Ben Barba.
I'm backing St Helens for fairly obvious reasons, they simply don't look like a side that will lose again this season, Barba doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon, Makinson is playing the best he's ever played, the forwards are one of the most dominant packs in Rugby League right now and finally, half of Widnes' team is in plaster at the minute. Saints by 13+.
