Warriors defeat gutsy Eels

Warriors 24 defeat Eels 14

Warriors and Eels faced off in a desperate battle with Warriors hoping to start cementing themselves in the top 8 and the Eels hoping to drag themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

Eels were on the scoreboard first through a penalty goal but it was the Warriors who scored the first try through David Fusitua with a acrobatic effort in the corner and with Lino converting.

Warriors didn’t wait too long for their second when Peta Hiku slipped through a missed tackle from George Jennings and crashed over in the corner.

Isaiah Papali’i was sent To the sin bin in the 35th minute and despite playing with less men the Warriors managed to hold out the Eels for the remainder of the half.

The second half saw a determined Eels outfit doing what they did best and going back to basics running straight and hard and opening the scoring through Clinton Gutherson off a backline movement and with Moses converting the scores were 12-8.

The Eels scored again through Manu Ma’u off a great pass from fellow prop Peni Terepo. Moses converted again and Eels took the lead 14-12.

But the Warriors didn’t go away scoring the final tries of the match through Jazz Tevaga and Isaac Luke to give the Warriors the win 24-14.
