Huddersfield Claim Important Win To Move Into The 8

Salford would open the scoring after 3 minutes of the game, moving the ball through the hands to powerhouse centre, Junior Sa'u, pushing his way through the line to score in the left corner, Lui unable to convert the extra points from out-wide.

The Giants looked to have struck back on the 10 minute mark, a sweeping line move finding Jermaine McGilvary who grounded in the corner, upon review Salford's left edge had done just enough to deny the Giants' winger and force him into touch before he could ground the ball.

Salford would get an opportunity to extend their lead, a penalty deep in Giants territory that they would turn into points, Lui opting to shoot for the sticks and give Salford a 6-0 lead after 16 minutes.

After 20 minutes of play the Giants would register their first points, moving the ball down the left to Darnell McIntosh who would dive over to put the Giants right back into the game, Brough unable to convert from out wide and Salford still holding a slender 2 point lead.

In similar fashion to the Red Devils, when the opportunity of easy points arose, the Giants would take the 2 points on offer to square the game up, Brough converting to make it 6-6 with 25 minutes played.

The score wouldn't remain level for long, Niall Evalds refusing to give up on a grubber that looked like it was overcooked, the Salford fullback coming on the blindside of Jordan Rankin to ground before he could usher it dead, Lui unable to convert to leave the scores at 10-6 with 10 minutes of the half to play.

Huddersfield would spend the last 5 minutes of the half hammering at the Salford line, Danny Brough creating the best chance with a delicate chip and chase, Josh Wood forced to hack the ball dead to prevent a certain try, his intervention enough to send Salford into the break with a 10-6 lead.

Salford would make a strong start to the second half but lacked execution, first Niall Evalds racing clear but chased down by Jordan Rankin, then a line move that if collected would have surely lead to points, the pass instead going to ground and the opportunity lost.

Huddersfield however, would finish their chances, from the loose ball Huddersfield would march down-field to register points, Daniel Smith powering his way over close to the line for the Giants to give them a chance to lead for the first time in the game, Brough with an easy kick to make it 12-10.

Salford were quickly losing a grip on the game, a high shot Jordan Rankin setting the Giants up in ideal field position, then Jordan Turner crashing over for the Giants after some sloppy marker work close to the line, Brough once more converting to make it 18-10 with 15 minutes left to play.

Huddersfield sealed the game with 8 minutes left to play, hooker Kruise Leeming the next man to go over from close range off the back of a repeat set, Salford clearly frustrated by conceding cheap goal line tries, Brough converting to give the Giants a 24-10 lead.

Junior Sa'u would give the Giants a taste of their own medicine, forcing his way over close to the line to ease the scoreline slightly, Lui converting to make it 24-16 and that's how the game would finish. The Giants now leap-frogging Salford in the table to move up to 8th.
