Saford Red Devils vs St Helens Super League Round 13 Preview

Salford come into this fixture after putting big points on Wakefield in a near perfect performance, this now leaves Salford with back to back victories and a potential of 3 in a row if they can upset Saints. St Helens too registered big points in their Round 12 fixture, a 66-4 drumming over the Huddersfield Giants.

Salford and Saints met 3 times back in the 2017 season, Salford winning just the 1 match, coincidentally this was the home fixture in a 22-14 victory in Round 7. Salford have won 2 of the last 5 meetings between these two sides, both wins coming at home which will certainly put them in good stead for Thursday night, to find Saints last victory at the AJ Bell you have to cast your memory back to round 2 of the 2015 season, a 52-6 victory.

Salford are without two key players for a huge game, their linchpin Robert Lui and co-captain Weller Hauraki, both side-lined with injury, they are replaced by Lee Mossop and Lama Tasi after they passed fitness tests to confirm their spots. St Helens welcome back Mark Percival and Zeb Taia from suspension after they were both given 1 match bans for individual offences, they replace James Bentley and Jack Ashworth.

Salford - Greg Johnson, Kris Welham, Junior Sa'u, Niall Evalds, Jack Littlejohn, Craig Kopczak, Logan Tomkins, George Griffin, Mark Flanagan, Lama Tasi, Ryan Lannon, Luke Burgess, Tyrone McCarthy, Ben Nakubuwai, Josh Wood, Lee Mossop, Jake Bibby, Daniel Murray, Jake Shorrocks.

St Helens - Jonny Lomax, Tommy Makinson, Ryan Morgan, Mark Percival, Theo Fages, Matty Smith, Kyle Amor, Zeb Taia, Jon Wilkin, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Luke Douglas, Morgan Knowles, Luke Thompson, Dom Peyroux,  Danny Richardson, Regan Grace, Matty Lees, Ben Barba, Matty Costello.

I'm backing St Helens to win this one, although Salford have a good recent home record against the league leaders, the absence of Robert Lui is a massive obstacle to overcome in itself as he has been the Red Devils' star man in 2018. Saints to take this game by 13+ is my prediction.
