Tigers vs Roosters Review

The Wests Tigers defeat the Sydney Roosters 10-8

Game Review:

We learned just before kickoff that key recruit for the Tigers Josh Reynolds was ruled out with a "Torn Hamstring". He was replaced in the starting side by Benji Marshall with Matt Mcllwrick coming onto the bench. As the game went on it game out that Reynolds has suffered a grade 2 tear and will be missing from action for 4-6 weeks.

So far 2018 hasn't disappointed so far. We are only the 4th game in and every game so far has shown something different and interesting.

Today we saw former Tiger James Tedesco take on his old club and from the start the fans and players let him know how they felt. Every time he touched the ball he was met with a wall of defence and the crowd got louder and louder with their boos.

We also got the chance to get to see the return of Benji Marshall to the Tigers and boy did he have a good game today. He was in everything and had a few key runs which put the Roosters on the back foot.

For a good portion of the game there was a lot of errors with both sides combining for a total of 19 errors and the discipline was just as bad with a combined 15 penalties. Majority of the scoring came from penalty goals with only two tries being scored all game. A sin binning to Tigers Halfback Luke Brooks saw the Roosters waste 2 minutes on the clock taking a penalty goal, Where they had all the pressure and momentum and if they consisted with the attack, They could have scored.

What impressed me: The Wests Tigers defence and new boys stepping up.
The Wests Tigers defended the line well and did great in shutting down Cooper Cronk and James Tedesco, In 2017 one of the biggest let downs for the Tigers was their defence but a new year, new mentality seems to be in effect. Hopefully we will be able to see this moving forward and the Tigers will be able to make a push for the Top 8.

What I found disappointing: Cooper Cronk.
Both of these players had huge raps coming into this season. The pressure was on for the Roosters to come out firing and show why they should be competition favourites. However they blew two early tries which would have changed the whole momentum of the game. Cronk was very quiet today, He made a few great plays which put the Tigers under pressure but it seemed that the combinations will take some time to get used to. He put a brilliant kick back on the inside which was a play which worked tremendously at the Storm with Slater running onto, however when he put it through there was no one there and was defused by the Tigers without pressure.

My player of the game: Benji Marshall
