St Helens vs Wigans Warriors Super League Round 8 Preview

A real Super League heavyweight clash as two rivals are set to go toe to toe for the right to sit at the top of the Super League table. The Warriors have currently played only 6 games in comparison to Saints with 7 and sit just 2 points behind the league leaders after their big win Huddersfield last week.

In 2017 these two sides met 3 times, Wigan losing one and wining two, all three were tight games that were decided by no more than 10 points. In the last 5 meeting between these two sides, the largest winning margin has been just 12 points, so I am expecting another tight game as the Wigan vs Saints saga continues.

Saints make just the one change through injury, Adam Swift is out for a month with a shoulder problem and is replaced by Ryan Morgan. The Warriors make two changes to the side that trounced Huddersfield last week, Escare is unavailable due to a virus and Hamlin is out of the 19, they are replaced by Romain Navarette and youngster Josh Woods.

St Helens: 1. Jonny Lomax, 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Ryan Morgan, 4. Mark Percival, 6. Theo Fages, 7. Matty Smith, 9. James Roby, 10. Kyle Amor, 11. Zeb Taia, 12. Jon Wilkin, 13. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 14. Luke Douglas, 15. Morgan Knowles, 16. Luke Thompson, 17. Dom Peyroux, 18. Danny Richardson, 19. Regan Grace, 20. Matty Lees, 23. Ben Barba.

Wigan Warriors: 1. Sam Tomkins, 2. Tom Davies, 4. Oliver Gildart, 5. Joe Burgess, 6. George Williams, 7. Sam Powell, 8. Tony Clubb, 9. Thomas Leuluai, 10. Ben Flower, 11. Joel Tomkins, 12. Liam Farrell, 13. Sean O’Loughlin, 14. John Bateman, 15. Ryan Sutton, 17. Taulima Tautai, 19. Willie Isa, 22. Liam Marshall, 25. Romain Navarrete, 34. Josh Woods.

This is the toughest game of the round to call, both sides have made a flying start to the season, both sides have got pretty much their best sides out and both sides are fairly evenly matched, I'm fairly confident that the winning margin will be 0-6, but still unsure as to who the winner will be. Nevertheless a decision has to be made and I'm going to back the Warriors to win this one by a margin of 0-6.
