Rabbitohs vs Warriors Review

New Zealand Warriors defeat the South Sydney Rabbitohs 32-20

Game review:

What an entertaining game this was. The Warriors put everyone on notice today with a comfortable win over the Rabbitohs. After a dominating first 10 minutes by Souths, something changed. They fell complacent and the Warriors made them pay for it.

Where this game was won for the Warriors was their completion rate. Whilst most of the stats were pretty even between the two sides the Warriors completed 82% (28/34) of their sets.

South Sydney were very sloppy in handling the ball having 15 erros and basically handing the Warriors field position for the entire game.

The battle of the 9's between Isacc Luke (Warriors) and Damien Cook (Rabbitohs) didn't disappoint. Isacc Luke was brilliant out of dummy half and ran the Rabbitohs forwards all over the place. Damian Cook showed moments of brilliance but was unable to get a go forward as the Rabbitohs forward pack just looked tired and out muscled.

The Warriors defence looked outstanding shutting down multiple "would be tries" and was a key factor in their win.

At the 60th minute, Solomone Kata was Sin Binned after a series of consecutive penalties slowing the play the ball down. This didn't effect the Warriors at all. The set after the binning happened, The Rabbitohs scored a try down the right edge off a series of good passes which saw Richard Kennar score his double for the night. However the kickoff to restart play saw Alex Johnston knock the ball on, inside the in-goal area. From this point for the remaining time that the Warriors were down to 12 players on the field, The Rabbitohs looked lost.

Blake Green was solid in his first game for the Warriors, adding a much stable game which just allowed Shaun Johnson to run and show why he is one of the most exciting players in the NRL.
