Sharks vs Cowboys review

North Queensland Cowboys defeat the Cronulla Sharks 20-14.

Game review:
The stage was set. It was Johnathan Thurston's 300th Career first grade game. The Cowboys welcomed back JT as well as Matt Scott who both were missing for majority of 2017 due to injuries. Heading into the game news broke that Cowboys 5/8 Michael Morgan was ruled out for what is believed to be 2-6 weeks with an Abdominal Strain.

This news didn't halt the home side with the Cowboys almost going over within the first 3 minutes via Te Maire Martin but the young half dropped the ball over the line. Moments later the Cowboys were believed to go over again through Jason Taumalolo but an amazing tackle from Matt Moylan and Jason Bukuya held the big man up.

The scores were pretty even and was a close game up until the 22nd minute when Cowboys Centre Justin O'Neill went over to score. Moments later young Coen Hess went over to score off the back of a quick dart out of dummy half  by Cowboys Hooker Jake Granville and things looked to be all Cowboys way until Josh Dugan went over close to halftime off a wacky bounce of the back of a Matt Moylan kick. But much like the Sharks first try, it wasn't long lived as the Cowboys hit right back of a long cut out ball by Te Maire Martin which saw Kyle Feldt finish a good try stepping around defenders.

The second half was much like the first, The scores remained close and was a good battle through the middle of the field, The main difference being however that the second half was a lot more "sloppy". The game finished with both teams combining for a total of 30 errors.

Where it was won:
The game was won through the middle of the field. The Cowboys forward pack was constantly on the move forward with players like Jason Taumalolo running for a total of 137 metres, The Cowboys ran for a total of 1140 metres as well as 329 post contact metres which the Sharks just couldn't keep up with.
