Round 3. Storm vs Cowboys review

Melbourne Storm 30 defeated the North Queensland Cowboys 14.

We started Round 3 with the grand final rematch and after both sides exchanged early penalty goals Melbourne got the upper hand through a Joe Stimson try set up by Smith and Slater.

A few minutes later Vunivalu gathered a bomb in his own 20 and made a break up field with Josh Addo-Carr in support and only Cowboys fullback Ben Hampton to beat. Unfortunately for Storm supporters though the pass was a second too late and blew and easy try though, the Storm did get a penalty a couple tackles later and through the boot of Cameron Smith extend the lead out to 8.

A penalty gifted the Cowboys some great field position and JT setup Coen Hess for a simple try and after the conversion it was back to a 2 Point game.

A Michael Morgan kick out on the full gifted Melbourne great field position and Smith didn't waste a chance putting over Christian Welch for his first career try and after converting it was back to an 8 point lead.

A chip and chase after the siren resulted in a penalty for the Storm even though Josh Addo-Carr the man who was infringed buy a block play was at least a metre and front of the kicker, but that didn't stop Smith kicking the Storm to a 18-8 lead at half-time.

It took 15 minutes and back to back penalties on the Melbourne try line but through a barnstorming effort, Hess earned himself a double and with JT converting the try, it was back to a 4 point game.

Quick play the balls inside the Cowboys 20 gave Chambers the chance to scoot out of dummy half and find some lazy Defenders to score a 4 pointer and secure the win.

With 2 minutes to go some quick passing between Asofa-Solomona and Smith seeing a Asofa-Solomona solomona get over and yet another try assist for Smith on the night to finish the night.
Key point of the match:
Just as the Cowboys started to get some dominance in the game a Michael Morgan 40/20 attempt that went out on the full gave Melbourne the field position to which they used to full advantage and the Cowboys never really got back into the match.

Boom's player of the match:
Cameron Smith, he may have had a quiet week last week but he had a hand in three of the four Melbourne tries and lead from the front like normal.
