Warrington Wolves 2018 Preview

As far as the Wolves are concerned, the only way is up, due to the fact they nearly finished bottom of the table in 2017. Warrington started the season with 6 consecutive losses, then followed by a draw to Hull FC, before finally picking up a win at Leeds in round 8.

A completely new look Wolves look prepared for what I believe may be the year they get their hands on the elusive Super League trophy. New Coach, new staff and new players, a major overhaul in an effort to right the wrongs of the previous year.

New Boys : Bryson Goodwin, Sitaleki Akauola, Tyrone Roberts, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Mitch Brown and Luis Johnson.

Losses: Kurt Gidley, Brad Dwyer, Rhys Evans, Andre Savelio, Aston Sims, Sam Wilde, Matty Blythe, Kevin Penny, Joe Westerman, Peta Hiku, Will Dagger and Benjamin Jullien.

Warrington have by far had the biggest restructure in Super League ahead of the new season, they have lost some major players in that long list, Kurt Gidley has been a major influence on and off the pitch for Warrington for some time, he will be very tough to replace. Aston Sims, although not the regarded as one of the best players, Sims' passion and aggression was always great to see.

The biggest signing the Wolves have made in my honest opinion is Ben Murdoch-Masila, he has been sensational in the last few seasons and in the World Cup, it's a real rarity that a forward finishes a season as a clubs leading try scorer. Last season he bagged 16 tries Salford. I think Tyrone Roberts is going to be key and that he is another brilliant signing, however I don't feel he comes close to Murdoch-Masila at the moment.

The Wolves had a major setback last year, but it's not impossible to come back from, the Rhinos finished 2016 in the bottom 4 and won the title in 2017, I'm tipping Warrington to do something similar. They are definitely finishing 4th or better in the regular season, but what they do from there all boils down to how much they have learnt from previous heartbreaks.
