St Helens 2018 Preview

St Helens will be incredibly disappointed that they dropped out in the Semi-finals, to be completely honest, it's a miracle that they were there in the first place.

Saints had a very poor opening to the season, scraping victories in 2 of their first 5 games, this wasn't the saints side that had been making finals and challenging for the league leaders. This slow start saw Keiron Cunningham get the chop and replaced by Justin Holbrook. Holbrook would help steady the team and get them to the Semi-final, they would fall short against Castleford in a thrilling game.

New Boys: James Bentley.

Losses: Tommy Lee, Matty Fleming, Adam Walker, Greg Richards.

Saints have retained their key players in the off-season, so while they haven't done much if any recruitment, they are still a strong side that have the talent to mount a challenge on the top 4.

One area in particular is going to be an obvious issue for St Helens, that is, where do they play Ben Barba? Last season saw him moved to fullback, this would cause Jonny Lomax to be moved into the centre, wing and on a couple of occasions, to the bench. This caused plenty of disruption and had an impact on Lomax's performance.

Saints have the ability in their ranks to mount a good challenge, they have the depth to cover injury, if Holbrook can have his side playing like they did in the second half of the season, then Saints will make the top 4 without a doubt in my mind.

I'm definitely going to predict them a top 4 finish, they will make the Semi-final of the play offs again, anything beyond that is anyone's guess.
