Year In Review 2017: Canberra Raiders

Well, 2017 was another year that should have gone better for the Canberra Raiders, At the start of 2017 they we're once again predicted to fall inside the Top 8 and even push the Top 4 however it seemed to be a case of "Another year, Same Raiders".

The Raiders opened the year up with a Golden Point loss to the Cowboys 20-16 in Townsville, Where a Johnathan Thurston Field Goal was miss kicked and hit the bottom of the crossbar which resulted in Cowboy's Back Rower Gavin Cooper diving on the ball in the goal line.

Things didn't seem much better for the "Green Machine" with the Raiders losing 3 of the first 5 games, and things didn't seem to improve. The Raiders strung together a few good wins here and there but momentum would change due to possible "Robberies" as Coach Ricky Stuart had stated multiple times.

In the end the inconsistent season wasn't enough for the Raiders who missed out on finals yet again which capped off their season. However the Club seems to be moving in the right direction for 2018, bringing in players like:

Brad Abbey (Bulldogs)
Charlie Gubb (Warriors)
Siliva Havili (Dragons)
Sam Williams (Wakefield Trinity (ESL))

But in doing so lost quite a few "Key Players".

Early reports are the when the players returned to pre-season training quite a few of them are"Overweight", hopefully "Sticky" can whip em into shape before the season starts.

Hopefully 2018 can be a better year for the club as they look to move back into the top 8.

My prediction? Surely the Canberra Raiders can't take another backwards step, I see them falling into 7th for next year.
