Top 5 PNG Players To Play Super League

Super League has seen some fantastic players from Papua New Guinea, and we are about to see a whole host more, Garry Lo, Kato Ottio, Wellington Albert, David Mead and Kurt Baptiste (I'm fully aware he's in the championship, but he is a good player, and he is a PNG International).

So amidst the Kumul invasion, we take a look at some of the greats to grace Super League.

5. Paul Aiton

Aiton arrived on British shores' a Wakefield man, staying there for 2 years before eventually attracting the attention of Leeds. Aiton would go on to win; 1 League Leaders Shield, 1 challenge cup and a Super League title. Unfortunately a broken arm would see him miss a chunk of the 2015, his last season for the Rhinos, before moving to Catalans where he is still playing. Aiton has in excess of 125 Super League appearances and 13 tries.

4.John Wilshire

Wilshire had only two Super League clubs in his time in the UK, Warrington who he played just 5 games scoring 2 tries, and Salford. Salford was where Wilshire made a name for himself in Super League, making 49 and scoring 22 tries, in his 3 seasons with the Manchester based club.

3. Stanley Gene

Stanley Gene started out his UK experience with Hull KR, racking up 111 appearances and 94 tries, attracting the attention of local rivals Hull FC. Gene would spend just 1 season with the black and white's before spending the next 4 years at Huddersfield. Gene would play 76 games for the Giants, scoring 27 times, before spending a season with the Bulls. 22 games later, Gene would return to the place where it all began, back in the red and white, making a further 55 appearances, with another 10 tries to his name. His tally finishing up with 181 Super League appearances and 50 tries.

2. Marcus Bai

Bai actually started his career with Hull FC back in 1997,making just 8 appearances, before heading to Australia for 6 years. Bai would return to Super League in 2004,helping Leeds secure their historic 2004 Super League win, he would spend 1 more season with Leeds, taking his total to 59 appearances and 42 tries. Bai then his last season with Bradford, making 25 appearances and scoring 10 tries. Bai is also the first player to win the World Club Challenge with 3 different clubs, Melbourne, Leeds and Bradford.

1. Adrian Lam

Our undisputed number 1, Adrian Lam, Lam spent his whole Super League career with Wigan. He would spend a grand total of 3 years with the Warriors, playing 119 games, scoring 44 tries for the Cherry and Whites. Lam's performance's helped take Wigan to the 2001 Grand Final, where they would lose to Bradford, Lam is still regarded as one of the all time great PNG halfbacks.
