Jarryd Hayne: Redemption

The news that Jarryd Hayne had joined the Eels on a cut-price deal for a year got a very mixed reception from fans, many had decided that he was surplus to requirements at the Sydney based club, others still left with a bitter taste in their mouth over Hayne's walkout for the NFL.

Maybe it's time to forgive and forget, after all Hayne could have stuck at the Titans for the money or alternatively, join another team on a better deal.

It looks very much like Hayne is extending the olive branch in an effort to patch things up with the club, it seems like the 1 year contract is a "prove your worth" contract. The Eels have essentially taken their former star player on a trial contract, with a view to re-sign him if his form returns. To be honest $500,000 for someone with the potential of Hayne and his capabilities, is somewhat of a bargain.

In Jarryd Hayne the Eels now have an Origin regular and fantastic runner of the ball, there is speculation that he will slot into the centre spot next season, this will bolster the Eels attacking threat down the sides as he is an explosive runner and possess lightning speed.

If the narcissistic side of Hayne has officially been laid to rest, then we could see a resurgence of one of the games' biggest talents, however if this is simply a move to put him back in the shop window after a rough time with the Titans then all those happy memories of this enigmatic superstar will be tarnished.
