Women's World Cup Semi-final Preview

In the Women's competition just 4 teams remain, Australia, Canada, England and New Zealand. The Cook Islands were unfortunate not to make the last 4, despite a shock victory over England in the last minute of their game.

Canada vs Australia:
Canada will not be looking forward to the prospect of facing Australia for the second time in less than a week. The Canadians were decimated by the Jillaroos, 88 points to nil. Canada will be without centre, Janai Haupapa, who was found guilty of biting an Australian player earlier in the week. Canada are pretty sure their tournament is over, it's highly unlikely that a team that was beaten by 80+ points by the same opposition such a short time ago, can improve so quickly.

Australia will have one eye on next week, I expect to see them rest a few players that they would like to be fully recovered, for the final. The Jillaroos will look to go out with the attitude of, 88 points is the score to beat, almost turning this fixture into their own personal game. The Jillaroos have shown just why they are regarded as the most dangerous team in the competition team in the competition with big wins over the Cook Islands, England and Canada. So far the Cook Islands are the only team to score points against the Jillaroos. I predict Australia by 60+.

New Zealand vs England:
The Lionesses will still be stunned by the shock, dramatic loss to the Cook Islands, this loss almost sent England home, luckily for the Lionesses their points difference was enough to see them through. England will have to work really hard to stop the free scoring Kiwi's taking control of the game early. New Zealand have scored in the opening 15 minutes of all of their games so far, so expect a fast start once more from the Kiwi's. Hardcastle and Courtman are going to have bring their A-game, to prevent the Kiwi's creating overlaps and exposing their wingers.

The Kiwi's will feel ready to deal with anything England can throw at them. The Ferns have looked in sensational form throughout this tournament, they have the joint best defence in the World Cup, they have conceded just 1 try, the same amount as the Jillaroos. Most of New Zealand's tries have come from their wide players, they will most likely attack down the flanks in an effort to find yet more points. The Kiwi's real quality down the middle of the park too, second rower Foto-Moala has earned a reputation for crunching tackles and huge runs. She is regarded as the hit-woman of the World Cup after her recent performances. I'm going to give this game to the Kiwi's by 20+.
