Garvey To Be Given Chance To Impress

The news that Canberra had brought in a depth signing in the hooker spot, in the form of Craig Garvey, couldn't have come at a better time, due to losing Josh Hodgson to a damning ACL injury.

Just 4 days ago the Raiders bolstered their squad by adding the 24 year old to their roster, after he was released by the Bulldogs at the end of the 2017 season. Garvey only played 3 games in 2017, in fact since his debut in 2014, Garvey has played just 23 times in the NRL.

When he signed for the Green Machine just days ago, it looked likely that he may not even make the field in 2018, with Josh Hodgson the first choice and Kurt Baptiste as his deputy, it was seemingly apparent that Garvey was a "just in case" player.

Canberra usually have a hooker on their bench and rotate around the 50 to 60 minute mark, on the assumption that they stick with this game plan in 2018, Garvey could see more minutes in the coming season, than the 4 seasons that preceded it.

If Garvey can impress he could potentially oust back up hooker, Kurt Baptiste, who only has a year left on his contract with the Raiders.
